Media Company Safely Consolidates 1,243 Servers to 137 Blade Servers

The customer, a large Media/Information company, decided to consolidate their traditional servers into blade servers to save space, reduce energy costs and avoid having to build a new data center architecture. They also wanted the ability to add assets to their facility more quickly and safely.

To accomplish these goals, without fear of overload or downtime, the customer needed a DCIM solution with real-time monitoring of circuits, and chose Nlyte Energy Optimizer.

The customer determined that roughly 80% of their servers were utilizing just 10-15% of their CPU capacity. So as these traditional servers were transitioned to blade servers, which are more space and energy efficient, a data center consolidation ratio of 9 to 1 was achieved. 1,243 traditional servers were consolidated into approximately 137 blade servers, which resulted in a 45% energy savings.

This consolidation could not have been achieved without the constant, real-time data center monitoring of Nlyte Energy Optimizer, to make sure load thresholds were not reached or exceeded. Using these same real-time metrics allowed users to place assets more quickly and in complete confidence that capacity was available.
