C A S E S T U DY CASE STUDY 0 1 COMPANY NAME: Proximus HEADQUARTERS: Brussels INDUSTRY: Telecommunications PRODUCTS AND SERVICES: Proximus is Belgium's leading quadruple-play provider and boasts the country's most complex IT infrastructure. HPE UCMDB and Nlyte DCIM are helping the business become more agile and more efficient. REVENUE: €6.1 Billion (2014) EMPLOYEES: 14,700 WEBSITE: CHALLENGE Quadruple-player leader, and national institution Proximus Group is the parent company of Belgium's leading quadruple-play operator. Formerly the state-owned Belgacom, the business now provides telephony, Internet, television and network-based ICT services in Belgium, along with operations in the Netherlands, Luxembourg and Lichtenstein. In 2014, group revenues topped €6 billion. The group has developed a 'Fit for Growth' strategy, aimed at becoming more efficient, agile and customer-centric. This is a company-wide transformation, vital if the business is competing and thriving in a rapidly changing industry. Achieving the key strategic priorities for improving customer experience, reducing costs and becoming more efficient requires substantial investment in critical areas such as networks, improvements in IT and convergent services. These investments will enable Proximus to increase market share and create growth by accelerating the innovative delivery solutions and the best quality service. The driver behind every investment, says Proximus, is the customer. Mapping a complex IT landscape With services spanning broadband, mobile, hosting and TV, Proximus operates arguably the most sophisticated IT infrastructure in Belgium. "We have every kind of technology you can find running somewhere in our data centres. Plus, IT is becoming more complex and more virtualised. We're creating virtual machines every day, and relying less on physical devices," says Sebastien Doneaux, IT operations manager, Proximus Group. The challenge for Doneaux and his colleague with Proximus' data centre operations, Peter Svensson, Projects and Netcenter housing manager, is to map every item in the IT estate, from infrastructure to software, against a business user, and to maintain full service. And, in an IT environment that is increasingly blended between the physical and the virtual, it must do this as efficiently as possible while ensuring no downtime for any end-user. HPE UniversalCMDB and Nlyte DCIM simplify management of complex IT environment " Prior to Nlyte we were in the dark. There was little we could do to figure out where a problem might be coming from, or who would be affected." Peter Svensson Projects and netcenter housing manager, Proximus Group
